How do we now define "Curriculum"?

Curriculum is the organisation of education. It is thus the learning that has been planned in the school and in the province/country. The school guides this learning in the curriculum (Smith,M.K.2000:1) Curriculum is thus always changing and being adapted.

  1. I agree with your definition but I would aslo add that the 21st century curriculum can be seen as a curriculum that incorporates higher order thinking skills, multiple intelligences, technology and multimedia, the multiple literacies of the 21st century, and authentic assessments.

    1. There are so many different components to the curriculum such as the hidden curriculum for example. We could also add that even though the school is given a curriculum to follow this will need to be adapted according to the learners you are teaching.

A good teacher will always get to know their students and what their interests are and make sure that the knowledge (curriculum) is reaching each and every student.

  2. Thank you for your comments! A very good point in the hidden curriculum. The role of the teacher is changing as fast as the curriculum, and the hidden curriculum has become more and more vital for teachers to incororate because of the lack of solid parenting at home.
